My Approach:
Representing New York, I took on the task and designed “Hustle of New York.” Drawing from my experience as a New York native, I aimed to capture the spirit of women in the city who, like Lady Liberty, hold the torch in their everyday lives. The goal was to create a piece that embodied women’s diverse and unified passion in various roles, from riding the train to running businesses, all contributing to the vibrant energy of the city that never sleeps. The artwork celebrated the determination and tenacity of New York women, aligning with Nike’s mission to empower and uplift women through art and representation.
Background:
Nike embarked on a creative initiative by assigning female illustrators from various cities to craft custom pieces for their media day boxes. These specially designed boxes were intended to be distributed to influential women nationwide during the media day event. The objective was to celebrate female talent and empower women by showcasing their unique artistic expressions while promoting the brand’s values and commitment to diversity and creativity.
Results:
As a result, the custom piece “Hustle of New York” successfully represented the city and its women, gaining visibility among influential individuals in the New York City area. The artwork was prominently featured in media day boxes, celebrating the newly designed WNBA jersey. Representing New York’s vibrant and diverse female community further amplified the message of empowerment and recognition for women in sports and beyond.
